Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of the Spanish region of Catalonia, is known for its works of art and architecture. The imposing church Sagrada Família and other modernist landmarks by Antoni Gaudí can be found throughout the city. The Museu Picasso and the Fundació Joan Miró show modern works of art by their namesakes.
Learning Spanish in a city like this is a challenge. You can try out what you have learned when buying bread in the morning or in a restaurant when ordering. In a small group of eight participants from different European countries, one can practice English as a lingua franca at the same time. Grammar, spelling, pronunciation but also geography of the country were part of the curriculum. Historical and political backgrounds completed the programme. Documents were detailed and clearly structured, but there was always time for questions. A guided tour through the old town with the local lecturer and our joint visit to the opera “I PURITANI” by Vincenzo Bellini in the Gran Teatre del Liceu completed our language experience..
