The Universitat Politecnica de Valencia offers an International Staff Week for Languages & IT Training two times a year. There are courses available for Spanish, English and French. An IT course runs parallel to the language courses. All of the courses take place in the air-conditioned rooms of a beautiful campus decorated with palm trees, sculptures and various works of art. I attended a Spanish course together with 12 other colleagues from Germany, Great Britain, Hungary and the Netherlands. Our teacher, Victor, worked with us interactively and ensured the variety and good atmosphere of the course. The interactions during the classes improved the group dynamics and networking of the colleagues. It resulted in interesting conversations and discussions about the development of education in the afore-mentioned countries, thoughts about the actual state of the European Union and constructive contributions about the possible future of Europe especially in terms of the education policy and eventual impacts on society.
On the campus
Optional programmes were also offered to the participants to help them familiarise themselves with the Spanish culture. Other than a guided tour of the campus, cooking lessons were available in a traditional cooking school with professional chefs, which was especially popular among the participants.
City of Arts and Sciences
After an excellent welcome lunch featuring Paella, the national dish of this region, a farewell lunch with regional tapas was also organised.
It was a warm welcome and a warm farewell!
